Яка вонакультура учнів?

What is it - the culture of youth?

A subculture is a cultural subgroup. They are considered 'opposite from the mainstream culture because of their unique trends. Subcultures are judged by what they look like, what they wear, where they live, their ethnic background and religion. Subcultures have distinctive styles of dress, activity and music. They form when the main stream culture fails to meet the needs of a particular group of people.

We have made the interview with the pupils from our school about subcultures "Do you consider yourself as the part of any subculture?"

According to the results, only few pupils consider themselves as the part of any subculture. We can made conclusion, that teenagers don't like to be associated with any groups, they prefer independence and free will.
So, why do teens join subcultures?
Today rapid changes in our society influence the process of socialization of teenagers. An average family fails to function as a proper  agent of socialization, so educative function is practically lost.  That’s why a lot of teenagers are subject to the influence of youth subcultures with their own interests, views and faith.
How do you distinguish one group from another?
Ø  Members of a subculture possess beliefs, values, customs that distinguish them from other groups in the wider culture
Ø  Subcultures create their own worlds that are complete with their own norms, language, and product insignias

The formation of youth subcultures
•       The formation of culture usually takes place when a larger culture fails to meet the needs of particular group of people.
•       These groups off a variety of different types of norms and values that they follow, however, they usually depend on the larger culture for general goals and directions .

So different! But what unites all subcultures?
1. Commitment
The members must be committed to a degree that influences the pattern of everyday life for the participant involved, accounting for free time, friendship patterns, shopping routines, going-out habits, collections of commodities, and even internet use.
 2. Identity
Members must share a sense of affiliation with group insiders, giving feelings of distinction from outsiders.
 3. Distinctiveness
A set of shared tastes, ideals and values which is distinctive from those of other groups and reasonably consistent within the group.
   4. Autonomy
Independent and self-governing. The act of not relying on mainstream culture to produce what is needed for the group to function and prosper.
So, there was said a lot about subcultures and their differentiation, we tried to figure what are they, but still it is a question, why is that happen?
“There is no mainstream. There are many streams.” Mainstream is in perpetual flux, rapaciously absorbing alternative culture at such a fast rate that the notion of a mainstream becomes obsolete.

So if there is no mainstream then there is nothing for the teens to react against – instead they are driven by other motives; and these must be understood on their own terms, individual terms
